Drones are everywhere these days, it seems. Hobbyists, researchers, photographers, students, and yes, the government, are all actively using drones for a wide range of purposes, both peaceful and violent.

From protecting wildlife and surveying damage in the aftermath of natural disasters, to killing people by remote control in foreign countries, drones are quickly becoming the platform of choice for a diverse array of activities.

Killing by drone is probably not going to fly here in the US anytime soon (we hope), but never fear; a less-than-lethal solution is close at hand.

Drones are now being developed than can deploy taser-like weapons to stun and temporarily disable interns and other suspicious characters.

CUPID,The Drone That Will Shoot You With an 80,000 Volt Taser

CUPID (Chaotic Unmanned Personal Intercept Drone) is the brainchild of Chaotic Moon, a tech outfit with the catchy slogan, “We are the most humble gods among men you’ll ever find.”

And, if you think they don’t have their eye on the lucrative security and law enforcement market, think again.

Imagine one of these stunners  mounted on the back of every police cruiser in a city, the officer safely tucked inside the vehicle with her smart phone at the ready. Bad guy shows up, steals a man’s murse right off his shoulder and runs off at full tilt down the street.

Drone gets launched, locks on target using a behavioral algorithm to identify the perp, flies up behind him and — zap! — down he goes. Call an ambulance, scoop him up for a quick visit to the ER, and then off to jail.

Done and done.

Security and police agencies would be crazy not to want this capability now, immediately, today.

And what might be Chaotic Moon’s next invention? How about an insulated, anti-taser suit that protects against drone attack?

Now we’re making some money!

If you want to see CUPID in action against an actual human target, scroll to the bottom of the Engadget article for a demonstration.
